A fruity alternative to mulled wine. Pomegranate juices vary a lot in sweetness, look for one that is just labelled as ‘Pomegranate Juice’ rather than ‘Pomegranate Juice Drink’, which will contain extra sugar.
cm piece fresh root ginger, peeled and roughly chopped

small orange, plus extra slices (optional) to serve
75ml
London Dry gin
Pomegranate seeds, to garnish (optional)
Directions
Step 1In a medium pan (that has a lid), mix the pomegranate juice, spice bags and ginger. Using a vegetable peeler or parer, remove the zest from the orange in long strips and add to the pan. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, then cover, remove from heat and leave to infuse for 1hr.
Step 2Halve the peeled orange and squeeze the juice into the pan. Strain mixture through a fine sieve into a serving jug. Stir in the gin.
Step 3Serve hot or warm (reheat gently, if needed), with extra orange slices and some pomegranate seeds, if you like.
