I didn't think affordable cashmere existed - until I came across this £79 Uniqlo jumper

There are few fashion items more luxurious than a cashmere jumper. The buttery‑soft knit has earned a permanent spot in every autumn and winter wardrobe, thanks to its cosy wool composition. Great news as we slowly creep toward October, but not so great for our bank balances. But what if I told you that affordable cashmere actually does exist, and won’t make you reconsider your monthly budget?

Uniqlo’s cashmere V‑neck sweatshirt is perhaps one of, in fact, the most affordable cashmere staples to buy right now. Made from (you guessed it) pure cashmere, the lightweight jumper features a flattering V‑neckline, cuffed sleeves and comes in 10 (yes, 10) different colours, from playful pink to classic beige. As with plenty of knitwear staples, the Uniqlo jumper is incredibly versatile and easy to style. Pair with barrel‑leg jeans while September temperatures remain pleasant, or slim‑leg jeans for a touch of classic charm with a pair of leather boots. Once the mercury drops, layer up with shirts and trench coats or barn jackets. Luckily, these outfit formulas work with any knit jumper, too.

John Lewis & Partners stocks an identical style in plum, and elsewhere, Boden offers a similar versatile style, in forest green. Pricewise, Marks & Spencer’s rendition comes in at £89.

Still, affordable in comparison to some of the luxury versions – Max  Mara’s bestselling turtleneck sweater comes in at £810.

While your comfort won’t be compromised thanks to cashmere’s soft material, you might still prefer something with a little extra room. If so, opt for Reiss’ relaxed fit, slightly oversized wool-cashmere jumper.
