Of all the must-haves for moms-to-be, a pregnancy pillow lives forever at the top of my list. My babies are teenagers now, but to this day I’ll tell anyone who’ll listen about how soundly I slept with my extra-long pillow.
Our Textile Lab experts have reviewed several pregnancy pillows at the Good Housekeeping Institute, and one of our mom-tested options is 41% off right now, bringing it just under $30.
The Frida Mom pregnancy pillow is a standout in our reviews because of the way it's constructed. The pillow is filled with polystyrene foam beads, which allows for easier shaping to support your back, legs, head, and belly. If you've ever tried to prop yourself up with two or three pillows in the middle of the night (been there!), you know how frustrating it can be to find a comfortable position. The Frida Mom pillow one can be molded into different positions, whether you prefer a curved C-shape, a folded L-shape, or a long, straight pillow.
And while the brand doesn't use any specific cooling technologies, one tester shared: "I have a $200 cooling pillow from a mattress brand and found that this pillow is much cooler. That's the main reason my son is 11 weeks old and I'm still sleeping with it."
Emma Seymour, associate director of the GH Institute Textiles Lab, says, "Foam tends to trap heat, but this one uses beads instead—so it may allow more airflow overall. Additionally, the synthetic material used is stretchy, breathable and lightweight, so if you're a hot sleeper, it'll feel better than traditional cotton which can hold onto moisture."
Amazon reviewers also rave about the pillow, with some saying that the cover is soft. They also say they appreciate that it can be removed for washing and drying. Some reported using the Friday Mom pillow post-partum, which is something I also did after giving birth. Other reviewers share they repurposed it as a nursing pillow, since it can easily fold into different shapes.
